Brighton and Hove plans to extend licensing scheme

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

With hope to improve accommodation standards and anti-social behaviour, Brighton and Hove Council will focus on certain areas to respond to growing problems in things like noise nuisance and litter.

The council currently licenses more than 800 HMOs of three or more storeys which have five or more tenants, this additional licensing will extend the license requirement to include properties with two or more storeys and three or more occupiers. The proposed areas that would be affected are Hanover & Elm Grove, Mouslecoomb & Bevendean, St Peters & North Laine, Hollingdean & Stanmer and Queen’s Park.

The council is currently holding a 10 week consultation and would like to hear from residents, local businesses, landlords and others on their proposals. The closing date is 31 March.
