Welcome to the live blog from the RLA’s Future Renting Wales conference 2019!

Landlords, letting agents and property professionals attended the conference in Cardiff and heard from Emma Williams, Deputy Director of Housing at the Welsh Government, Kate Faulkner and many more!

Delegates heard legal updates, and about key issues relating to their lettings including tax changes and Rent Smart Wales.

Here, in our live blog, you’ll be able to read all the key announcements of the day as they happened!

Delegates have now arrived an it’s time to open the conference. We are delighted the conference this year will once again be hosted by BBC Wales broadcaster Lucy Owen. But first RLA Vice Chair and Director for Wales Douglas Haig welcomes landlords to the conference.

A great introduction from BBC Wales’ Lucy Owen. With one in five people estimated to live in homes in the private rented sector by 2020, it promises to be an interesting day looking ahead to the future of renting in Wales.

Next we will be hearing from Emma Williams, Deputy Director of Housing Policy at the Welsh Government.

A really interesting talk from Emma Williams, deputy director of housing policy at the Welsh Government.

Now its time to hear the very latest on Rent Smart Wales from our speaker, Bethan Jones.

Very interesting to hear from Bethan Jones on the future of Rent Smart Wales. Now its time for our delegates to hear from Chief Executive of the NRLA, Ben Beadle. The NRLA will launch from the merged NLA and RLA.

Great to here from Ben there. Now, time for tea and coffee, and a chance for our delegates to mingle with all of our exhibitors.

That’s break time over, now its time to hear all about the state of the market from Lawrence Bowles of Savills.

Next up: What tax changes do landlords need to be aware of in 2020? It’s time to find out, as Sean Hughes of Comprehensive Tax Planning is up next to speak.

A very interesting morning, now time to break for lunch!

That’s lunch over, it’s time to hear from Kate Faulkner, on disruptions to the market.

Kate Faulkner ends on a positive note. It’s time to hear the latest on deposit protection from Debbie Davies, at the Tenancy Deposit Scheme.

Next up-it is a topic that is all over the news headlines the moment. With just two weeks to go until the General Election, RLA Vice Chair and Director for Wales Douglas Haig will be giving a talk on that very subject.

Landlord in Wales? Make sure you come to a Hustings event in Cardiff next week, hosted by RLA Wales! Details below-we look forward to welcoming you there!

Time for something a little different now. We will be welcoming Ben Beadle, Debbie Davies, Kate Faulkner and Douglas Haig back onto the stage for a panel discussion, which will be hosted by Lucy Owen.

That’s the final break time over! It’s now time to hear from our policy director David Smith who will be providing landlords with a legal update.

And that rounds up another really insightful and interesting Future Renting Wales conference.
