Immigration checks LIVE

Private landlords in the West Midlands will now be required to carry out immigration checks on tenants for new tenancies.

The RLA has reported on these new requirements, you can read more here. Government guidance can be found here.

The new requirements see private landlords acting as Home Office officials, ensuring that tenants are eligible to live in the United Kingdom. The system will be tested in Greater West Midlands.

Birmingham, Dudley, Walsall, Sandwell, and Wolverhampton are the areas designated for checks. Coventry and Solihull are exempt from the ‘pilot area’. The proposals could very well become a national obligation after the pilot scheme concludes.

Don’t just wait for this to become a law. Find out what your responsibilities will be, and make sure you know how to fulfill them.
