Jenrick and McVey given housing roles by Boris

Robert Jenrick has been named the new Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).

Former Exchequer Secretary Jenrick replaces James Brokenshire – who has left the position after just over a year to return to the back benches.

Esther McVey has been appointed Housing Minister.

McVey will become the 18thhousing minister since 1997, taking over from Kit Malthouse, who held the role for a year. 

He took over from Dominic Raab in July last year after he had been in the post just seven months.

Other appointments include: 

  • Sajid Javid, a former Housing Secretary, as the newly appointed Chancellor.
  • Amber Rudd MP remains Work and Pensions Secretary.
  • Robert Buckland QC MP as the new Justice Secretary.
  • Andrea Leadsom MP as the new Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Secretary, the department with responsibility for Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards.
  • Priti Patel MP as the new Home Secretary
