A CARING landlord from London spent most of the Christmas period helping homeless people in her local community.
Lorraine Hyland, 30, who has been renting out her property in Hampshire for the past three years, has spent the last five winters volunteering for a local homeless shelter.
She said: “Since I was younger I have always been interested in helping homeless people. I have been to the shelter every year for the past five years to chat to some of the people.
“One person that I will always remember was a homeless man who was spending Christmas alone. He was very well spoken, and he told me that he had been made redundant and his wife has left him, so he was facing Christmas alone. It was heart breaking”.
Lorraine added: “I enjoy chatting to some of the people at the shelter, and being a listening ear to the people who come in “.
Lorraine became a landlord ‘by accident’, and says she enjoys being a landlord because she enjoys meeting the tenants, and seeing her property being turned into a family home.
As well as being a landlord, Lorraine works at a local supermarket, also spends time in the winter months offering homeless people on the streets food.
Great work Lorraine!
