Our first Landlord Advice Roadshow is almost upon us, with the team promising an  informative evening offering help and advice on everything from data protection to energy efficiency.

Carrie Kus, housing law expert and RLA director will open the evening with a short talk on the General Data Protection Regulation.

If, like many, the new GDPR obligations have left you baffled, she will cover the key points you, as landlords, must address, talking you through the process step-by-step.

You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have on GDPR, to make sure you walk away from the evening fully aware of your obligations ahead of the May 25 deadline.

She will also give a brief overview of the new Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards brought in on April 1, running through what you need to do to make sure you are compliant.

Next up our senior researcher Tom Simcock will be talking about RLA campaigns and the association’s research arm, PEARL.

This will include all our latest findings and the impact our work is making, both nationally and internationally.

Once you’ve refuelled at the buffet, Peter Ramsey from Sheffield City Council will be the final speaker of the evening, discussing the rogue landlord database, banning orders, HMOs and selective licensing.

All three speakers will take questions, but the final hour of the evening will be led by you, so bring along any issues you’d like to put to our experts.

Carrie, Tom and Peter will be joined by accommodation officer, Dominic Kitchen from Sheffield Hallam University on the panel.

The question and answer session promises to be a great way to raise issues you want clarity on, debate hot topics affecting the sector and share best practice.

And don’t worry if you don’t fancy shouting out in the crowd, you can submit your questions on paper and they will be asked for you.

There will also be a 1-2-1 clinic, run by Alex Nolan, landlord advice team advisor and trainer. We pride ourselves on the advice we give to members daily, both over the phone and through our live chat service, and this is a good chance to experience it face-to-face.

If you would like advice on an individual basis, he will be happy to take your questions.

Anyone who attends the roadshow can also take advantage of a 50% discount on training courses and membership (including renewals) until the end of May.

For more information and to book your place visit our roadshow pages.

There is some free parking at the venue, with additional parking a five minute walk away at S1 4RN.

  • The RLA is also holding its Future Renting North conference this month. Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham will be the keynote speaker at the event at the city’s Concorde Conference Centre, with a packed programme, focussing on the future of the PRS in the north. For more information and tickets  visit our conference pages.
