This month the NRLA is running a series of webinars for landlords on managing their lettings business during the Covid-19 pandemic.

We have already run interactive webinars on financial support and a webinar specifically for HMO landlords, as well as several regional webinars.

NRLA COVID-19 -Managing rent arrears (recorded on 20/5/2020)

As a result of the Coronavirus outbreak, many people are facing financial uncertainty, and some tenants are seeing their incomes fall significantly. We’re encouraging landlords, where possible, to be flexible. But how can landlords do this in practice? In this webinar, NRLA compliance specialist Dan Cumming and adviser James Harvie discuss managing rent arrears, creating payment plans and more.

NRLA COVID 19 Series – Mitigating Losses (recorded on 8/4/20)

In the first in our series of Covid-19 webinars, we were joined by guest speakers Alison MacDougall, Director of Dispute Operations at the Tenancy Deposit Scheme and Kate Faulkner, property expert and commentator.

Alison spoke about what landlord needs to know when it comes to managing deposits at this time-including how to evidence property condition for check-out and check-in while social distancing. Kate looked further ahead to how landlords can plan for exiting this period of emergency measures, what the market might look like in the months to come.

Financial Support webinar (recorded on 15/4/2020)

In the second in our series of weekly webinars for landlords, James Card of tax advisers Rita for Rent spoke about the support available from Government for landlords and tenants, including tax reliefs and support for the self-employed.

Universal Credit expert and NRLA trainer Bill Irvine brought his expertise to guide landlords on the changes the Government has announced on Universal Credit and how landlords can help tenants to apply for benefits.

NRLA COVID-19 series: HMO management (recorded on 22/4/2020)

In the third in our series of webinars for landlords, we took a closer look at how should landlords of HMOs be managing their properties during the Coronavirus outbreak. With some landlords concerned about how to comply with their ongoing management responsibilities whilst maintaining social distancing to protect their tenants, James Wood, Senior Policy Officer at the NRLA, talked HMO landlords through what the need to know at this time.

NRLA Wales Coronavirus Webinar (recorded 23/4/2020)

NRLA Director Douglas Haig, Senior Policy Officer James Wood and Wales Public Affairs Officer Calum Davies hosted our Wales Coronavirus webinar recently. Landlords heard an update on the NRLA’s latest lobbying of the Welsh Government and local authorities; an overview of the guidance, support and the advice available to help manage a lettings business through the pandemic.

NRLA Covid-19 series: Electrical Safety (recorded on 6/5/2020)

New electrical safety regulations are coming into force in England from July requiring electrical installations to be safety checked for new tenancies, and for all existing tenancies from April 2021. In this webinar, Charlotte Lee, Head of External Affairs at NAPIT, one of the leading Government Approved Competent Person Schemes for qualified and competent electricians, explained what the new regulations mean for landlords, and how to comply in the context of COVID-19 measures.

Buy-to-let landlords may have heard about the ‘mortgage holidays’ available, but what does this really mean, and what will happen to future mortgage applications? In this webinar, Doug Hall, Director of mortgage distributor and mortgage broker 3mc/RLA Mortgages, and John Goodall, CEO of Landbay, specialist buy-to-let mortgage lender, discussed mortgage holidays, lenders products, valuations, and changes in the buy-to-let market as a result of the Coronavirus measures, with insights from both the broker and lender perspectives.
