The RLA welcomes Brandon Lewis, MP for Great Yarmouth, as the new minister for housing and planning. The appointment is recognition of the current Government that housing and planning are crucially important policy areas.

Bringing planning and housing back under one focus, after it was split in 2009, will help tackle to the role of supply and demand which is so crucial to the current housing debate. The RLA looks forward to working closely with the new minister to ensure that housing continues to grow in importance.

We wish Kris Hopkins the best in his role at the DCLG and hope to continue the good working relationship we have created with him during his tenure as Housing Minister. Mr Hopkins wrote the RLA acknowledging rent controls would not work.
