Private renting in Wales is experiencing massive change. The Rent Smart Wales licensing scheme was brought in last year, while the impending Renting Homes Act will see the introduction of a standard tenancy contract, with new safety and minimum property standards also on the horizon.

In response to this the RLA is holding its first conference, Future Renting Wales.

The national one day conference for the private rented sector will offer everything PRS landlords need to know to prepare themselves for the changes ahead.

A Welsh government minister will be the keynote speaker at the event, with RLA policy director David Smith – legal adviser to the Renting Homes Bill committee – addressing the conference on the implementation of the new Act and what it will mean for landlords and their rental businesses.

Anne Rowland of Rent Smart Wales will discuss the operation and future direction of the RSW scheme and other industry experts will inform delegates about reforms to tax, energy efficiency standards and welfare reform – looking at how legislation from Westminster is being implemented in Wales.

Exhibitors will be on hand offering advice, support and offers and delegates will have the chance to network over a free lunch and refreshments.

The conference, on November 30th, will be held at Jury’s Inn, Cardiff and is open to anyone with an interest in private rented housing, from landlords with just one property, to those with larger portfolios, letting agency owners and staff, Assembly Members and their staff, local authority councillors and workers, journalists and housing charities.

Douglas Haig, RLA director for Wales who will also be speaking at the event said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for delegates to hear from expert speakers, coming together to update them on best practice and the many forthcoming changes to the sector.”

Early bird tickets start from just £20 for RLA members and £25 for non-members.
