Fire Safety will be on the agenda as The RLA hosts a fringe event at the Welsh Labour Party Conference, which is taking place on Saturday.
The session will be called ‘Responsibility for Fire Safety in Housing’ and will look at recent changes made in Welsh legislation, and how we can simplify the complex world of fire safety to better show who is responsible and accountable.
Ahead of the event, Rebecca Evans AM, Minister for Housing and Regeneration, who is coordinating the Welsh Government’s response to issues that came to light following the tragedy at Grenfell Tower – including the work of the Fire Safety Advisory Group and specific work relating to residential high-rise accommodation.
She has said: “The Welsh Government is taking a responsible, dynamic and inclusive approach to ensuring that informed actions are taken by the relevant parties.
“The situation following the tragedy at Grenfell Tower continues to evolve, and as it does, our response will take careful note of the findings of the independent review of building regulations and fire safety, and thereafter those of the public inquiry. I anticipate that this will augment the Welsh Government’s proactive track record of enhancing resident safety.
“I welcome the opportunity to discuss progress and future steps with the Residential Landlords Association.”
