With the Mayoral Election just five weeks away the Residential Landlords Association is on the campaign trail in London.

We are lobbying to ensure all candidates are aware of the vital role that buy-to-let landlords play in providing housing in the capital, where demand frequently outstrips supply.

The RLA is campaigning on four key issues:

  • the importance of supply,
  • the value small-scale landlords and developments offer by bringing plots of land into use
  • the need to keep regulation proportionate and the value of co-regulation
  • the risks associated with introducing longer tenancies or rent controls

Our London Campaign Co-ordinator Ryan Buckley is meeting with representatives of all the Mayoral candidates to protect the interests of our London members and ensure they are aware of the importance of supporting the Private Rented Sector in the city.

  • I would suggest RLA members use this as an opportune time to punish the Conservatives for their betrayal of us.

One can just imagine George Osborne’s sneer as he imagines that Landlords like you and I have nowhere else to go politically have to vote Tory.

Lets prove him and all of them wrong.

First, lets actually vote for anyone other than the Conservatives.

Second, and vitally, lets act tactically and publically post to Social media, to newspapers and actively campaign against them.

    Heres how:

    A) Campaign on what’s close to our hearts – Let’s each of us publicly say “I am voting for anyone but the Conservative because I am a responsible and responsive landlord who helps people, is useful to the economy, and is sick of being demonised and ripped off.

    B) Campaign on what matters to people out there. Align with what a lot of decent people think. “I think the bedroom tax is wrong and cuts to disability benefits is wrong. I’m not voting Tory.”

Above all, let’s show the Conservatives that declaring war on landlords has consequences.
