Landlords in several London Boroughs are eligible for grants of up to £6,000 per property to install energy efficiency measures. London Boroughs of Camden, Enfield, Islington, Hackney, and Haringey are all part of a deal for private landlords to improve their properties.

A Green Deal Assessment is required – which Smart Homes is subsidising for a rate of £50 per site – to access the grant. However, the benefits are undeniable.

Examples of eligible measures include:-

  • Boiler replacement
  • External and internal wall insulation
  • Roof insulation and draught proofing
  • Electrical heating upgrades
  • Replacement glazing / secondary glazing

This grant is a massive opportunity for landlords to get their properties up to code with Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating requirements in 2018, fully outlawing properties with F or G ratings.

The grant is on a first come, first serve basis until March 2015 or while funding lasts.

All properties within the Private Rented Sector (PRS) must be up to at least an ‘E’ EPC rating by 1st April 2018 under new legislation but this date could come forward to 2016 so waiting is not an option. Energy efficiency improvements can also help landlords and tenants save on energy bills.
