Suffolk County Council is offering up to £6,000 worth of grants to private landlords to improve the energy efficiency of certain properties. The programme runs until March 2015 but funding is likely to dry up before them…act quickly to avoid disappointment!

Funding is aimed specifically at older, solid wall properties, those more likely to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating below the ‘E’ band. Some of the most popular works include:

  • Solid wall insulation
  • New central heating system
  • Boiler replacement

An assessment survey is required before being granted funding and this generally comes to about £29 which is refundable if the works are carried out. Funding is provided on a first come first serve basis and it is likely to run out before the March deadline.

All properties within the Private Rented Sector (PRS) must be up to at least an ‘E’ EPC rating by 1st April 2018 under new legislation but this date could come forward to 2016 so waiting is not an option. Energy efficiency improvements can also help landlords and tenants save on energy bills.

If you would like to discuss this scheme further please contact Peter Kerridge on 01473 265593 or e-mail pete.kerridge@suffolk.gov.uk or Joe Howarth on 01473 260451. The pilot is being operated on a first come first served basis and will cease on the 31 March 2015 or earlier if all funds are committed.
