Tax expert Carl Bayley has been announced as the newest member of the Residential Landlords Association’s training team.

Carl is the author of a series of ‘Plain English’ tax guides designed to help landlords understand the taxes they must pay and let them know about the savings they can make through sensible planning and by having the confidence to know what they are entitled to claim.

In addition to being a recognised author and speaker, Carl has discussed taxation on radio and television, including the BBC’s ‘It’s Your Money’ programme and BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine Show.

He will now be providing training courses on Property Tax and Capital Gains Tax on behalf of the RLA.

Carl began his career as a Chartered Accountant in 1983 with one of the ‘Big 4’ accountancy firms. After qualifying as a double prize-winner, he immediately began specialising in taxation.

Having honed his skills with several major international firms, Carl began the new millennium by launching his own tax and accounting practice, Bayley Miller Limited, through which he provides advice on a wide variety of taxation issues; especially property taxation and tax planning for small and medium-sized businesses.

Carl is the Chairman of the Tax Faculty of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a member of the Institute’s governing Council. He is also a former President of ICAEW Scotland and has co-organised their annual Practical Tax Conference for the last 14 years.

Andrew Goodacre, chief executive of the Residential Landlords Association said: “We at the RLA are delighted to welcome such as well-respected industry expert as Carl to the training team.

“His wealth of experience in the world of accountancy and his expert knowledge of taxation will ensure our landlords are kept up to date with the latest tax changes, their liabilities and any tax breaks they are entitled to claim.

“With no fewer than 14 tax changes made to the buy-to-let market in the last four years, including changes to Mortgage Interest Relief, Stamp Duty and Capital Gains Tax it is more important than ever that landlords are keeping themselves abreast of the latest legislation.”
