Two years of RLA PEARL

It has been two years since the RLA launched its private renting, evidence, analysis and research lab PEARL.

To mark the second birthday, RLA PEARL published a series of informative blog posts last week as part of #PEARLweek.

Here, we take a look back at some of the highlights.

  1. Meet RLA PEARL 

We kicked off PEARL week with an introduction to PEARL. In this video, our researcher Nick explains about the vital work PEARL carries out, some of its most recent findings and why it is so important for landlords to continue to share their experiences with us,

2. Take a look around our refreshed website and brand new observatory blog

The RLA site has been refreshed and updated with the very latest stats relating to the private rented sector. Our brand new Data Observatory includes fresh data on rents, rent levels and PRS households. Check it out by clicking here.

3) Guest blog by the Scottish Association of Landlords on the tribunal system

On 1 December 2017 the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland Housing and Property Chamber took over from the sheriff court in dealing with all private rented sector (PRS) disputes including evictions, debt recovery actions, cases against landlords who’ve failed to comply with deposit scheme regulations and letting agents who’ve failed to comply with their code of practice. As part of PEARL week this year, Caroline Elgar, policy manager at the Scottish Association of Landlords (SAL) wrote a blog about how the tribunal has fared so far.

4) RLA possession reform survey breaks records.

Our policy manager John Stewart reports on what the RLA has been doing to protect members’ rights in the face of government proposals to abolish Section 21. In this article John thanks members for taking time out to respond to surveys and providing the evidence base upon which our campaigning is based.

5) Analysis of the Office of National Statistics data on private rental prices

In July, the Index of private rental house prices for the UK grew by 1.3%, which is the third consecutive month that rental prices have grown by this amount. Last week we published a blog taking a closer look at the new figures relating to rental prices growth. Read the blog online here.
