Single claimants of housing benefit will receive Universal Credit from 7th of April.
It will apply only claimants in the postcodes: CH5 1 to CH5 4 and also to those residents in CH5 9.
Universal Credit replaces the six main “means tested benefits and tax credits.”
The scheme has been rolled out in six areas in England since and July 2013.
Claimants who receive housing benefit as part of their Universal Credit payment are expected to make the payments to their landlords. This replaces current Local Housing Allowance (LHA) procedure where the landlord can receive direct payment of the rent from the local authority.
