The Welsh Government is planning to introduce Wales-wide landlord registration in Autumn 2015. If you rent any properties in Wales you will be required to register.

The RLA will prepare advice and guidance for members when the Welsh Government releases the full details of the scheme, although we know the outline:

  1. The new regime shall come into effect in early later this year, but the regulations will not be enforced until a year later.
  2. Every single landlord that has a property in Wales will have to register him/herself/company and register details of each property.
  3. There will be heavy penalties for those who don’t comply, including, in some instances, unlimited fines and rent stopping orders.

RLA Cymru will continue to update members as more details are released. In the meantime, you can familiarise yourself with Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS) from the Housing (Wales) Act 2014.
